Jennifer Schafer
I am honored to be considered as a candidate for Band Patron President.
My son Cole is a sophomore in the drum line and my son, Ethan, will be an incoming Freshman tuba player next year! I have enjoyed working with the other parent volunteers and the students over the last two years, it is truly an amazing group. I believe wholeheartedly that supporting the students should always be our number one priority. Our students are so very talented!!! It is such an awesome feeling to watch students grow during their years in band. I have seen them gain a sense of pride in their performances, enjoy singing on a bus rides, and even have fun playing music and making new friends while stuck in a school cafeteria during a rainy Friday night football game. The students lift each other up, support each other when one is down, and share in each other’s celebrations.
As Band Patron President, I would continue to build upon the traditions the band patrons have built over the years. I have been involved with organizing and preparing the band camp lunches, being “snack parent”, chaperoned during football games, assisting with the TJ band festival, spaghetti dinner and band banquet over the last two years. These experiences have helped me understand the duties of the band patron president while facilitating collaboration among parents, staff, and students. When I am not assisting with the band, I have a full-time job as a Civil Engineer.
I believe we all have an important role in bringing success to the students’ experience in band. Whether it’s volunteering at events, sharing ideas, or simply showing up to cheer on our students, the value of your time will not be lost on these students.
Finally, I am deeply invested in the success of this band program because I’ve seen its impact not just on my own child but on so many others. The memories made here, the skills learned, and the friendships formed are irreplaceable. I want to ensure that these opportunities continue to flourish for current and future students.

Sarah Laslo
I am running for Vice President.
My daughter plays clarinet.
My favorite part of band is the friendships that are created. Being together for so long and going through tough days strengthens the bonds the kiddos create.
I love to watch all parts of band. I go to all the games and shows/performances. They are all uniquely special.
Fun Fact- I do not watch ANY sports but am an avid Olympic watcher.

Maribeth Cardillo
My name is Maribeth Cardillo, and I am running for secretary of the band patrons for next year.
My son A.J. is a senior alto sax player and will graduate this June, and my daughter Gianna will be a sophomore next year. She plays the flute.
My favorite part of the band is how everyone works together to achieve a common goal and acts as a cohesive unit. It also brings me back to my time in my high school marching band. It is so cool to see my kids enjoy being a part of the band as much as I did.
I have worked at Cigna Healthcare for almost 15 years. I am on the Enterprise Health Equity team and work on reducing health disparities that exist within certain populations. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work from home on a full-time basis but sometimes have to travel for work.
I have been secretary of the TJ Band Patrons for the past 3 years, and it is a true labor of love. I take care of the mountain of paperwork, place orders for summer uniforms, create meeting agendas, and take meeting minutes for the monthly band patrons meetings. I enjoy being so involved in the band and getting to know all the kids and their parents.
I am looking forward to another fun and exciting band season!
Rick Moore
My name is Rick Moore and I’m the proud father of Nathan in the low grass section. I was in band too, playing the trumpet, tuba, baritone in concert and marching band, and bass guitar in the Jazz band.
I am putting my name in the running to be considered for the position of treasurer for a second term. In addition to being the current band treasurer, I have experience as treasurer with the Boy Scouts for the past 8 years.
As the current treasurer for the Band Patrons, I have implemented an electronic payment system through PayPal, upgraded the financial tracking/evaluation software, and increased transparency with monthly reporting and GSA balances.
I understand the significant importance of this position for the band patrons and the students. If re-elected, I will do my best to continue to make improvements to the financial practices to ensure this organization is financially sound for future students.

Mary Wilson
My name is Mary Wilson, and I am running for the Web/Technology Administrator. My son, Adam, is a freshman and plays the trumpet.
This first year has been a great experience for our family. From the upper classmen welcoming the freshmen and helping them get adjusted to high school to band camp to football games and parades to even the lunch tables and extra PLTs, it has shown us that this is a great organization, group of kids, and wonderful families. We have tried to be as involved as possible with the organization – helping at band camp, volunteering at the band festival, and organizing the Gator Fund Bingo. Getting this position would be another opportunity to give back to the organization that is giving my son such a great experience in high school, definitely one that he will remember.
After years of gymnastics, I joined the Colorguard of the University of Pittsburgh Marching Band. I have many great memories from my time in the band. I loved that our band had the opportunity to engage with Pitt’s Band at our festival and at Marching Band Day at Pitt.
I currently manage IT project managers, previously holding additional roles in engineering and project management. I love to plan and organize and will apply these characteristics to the website to make sure everyone can get to the information they need easily.
At our next meeting, Tuesday, April 11th, we will have a "Meet and Greet" with these wonderful candidates and provide the specifics on how our voting process will work.
