Yearly Reminders

Band Assessment Fee

The band assessment fee for 2011-2012 school year is $35 if paid by November 1. The assessment fee may be paid via check payable to TJ Band Patrons or with available funds in your child’s goal setting account.  Payments may be dropped off in band room in the bin marked Assessment, or email Hank Churilla to use goal setting funds. 

 

TJ Band Patrons Membership

The membership fee is $4/person until Nov. 1; after that date the fee increases to $10/person. The membership form and check payable to TJ Band Patrons may be dropped off in the band room in the bin marked Membership, or mailed to the Membership chairperson listed on the form.

Volunteers Needed

As we start the new year, we would like to wish everyone a healthy, happy 2012.  As the TJ Band starts the new year, we are in need of a few volunteers for upcoming events:

Spaghetti Dinner: For many years, the TJ Band Patrons have hosted a spaghetti dinner on the Saturday of the school's musical performances.  It is held between the matinee and evening performances, and this year the date is March 10th.  It is open to the public and has always been attended by the cast, crew and staff of the show.  As of today, we have not had anyone come forward to coordinate this fundraiser for the patrons.  If you (or you and a group of friends!) have any interest in organizing this fundraiser for the band, please contact one of the patron officers.  We are hoping to find someone willing to coordinate the spaghetti dinner fundraiser for us or we will have to cancel this long-time tradition.

Fall Festival of Bands: The TJ Band Patrons are also looking for a chairman to coordinate our annual Fall Festival of Bands.  This festival is our largest general fundraiser and the money raised is used for many band activities throughout the year and benefits all of our band members.  For the last two years, Chuck and Kathy LoPresti have chaired our festival and would be willing to give guidance to any person, or better yet, group of people that may be interested in coordinating the festival next fall.  Invitations for the festival generally are sent in February or early March so it would be great to have a festival chairman by that time.  Again, if you (or you and a group of friends!) have an interest in coordinating the Fall Festival, please contact one of the patron officers.  This year’s festival will be held on October 6, 2012.

 

We also want to mention that the TJ Band Patron membership always comes through to help out and work at both the Spaghetti Dinner and the Fall Festival.  If you decide that you would like to help out and organize either the Spaghetti Dinner or the Fall Festival, you will get a lot of help from the other parents.

 

Even though we have been asking for volunteers for these two events at the last few band patron meetings, we know that not everyone is available to attend our monthly meetings.  We hope this will reach all of our band families, including those that are not able to attend our meetings, and we will hopefully be able to get some volunteers for these events.

 

Nominating Committee:  In addition to our requests for the above, we also need a Nominating Committee within the next month or two.  More information will be sent soon regarding this committee.

Wanted:  Pictures & Videos

For the last many years, Bob Timmins (former TJ band dad) has put together a TJ Band DVD highlighting some the band’s performances throughout the year.  He is starting to put together the DVD for the 2011-2012 school year and is asking for any additional video or still photos you may have of the band’s performances this school year.  If you have any video or pictures that you would like to possibly have included in this years video, please contact Bob Timmins either by email at vze29rfn@verizon.net or by calling or texting his cell phone at 412-576-9149.  If you would like to contact him during the day, a text will get good results.  The most efficient way to get your photos or video to Bob is to put the content on a flash drive or disk.  If you need help doing that, Bob can be of assistance.  He would like to have all of the pictures and video by the end of January. In the near future, we will be taking orders for this DVD and they will be distributed at our annual band banquet on May 25.  This DVD makes a great commemoration of the band’s marching season.

Fundraisers

TJ Band has numerous fundraising opportunities throughout the year to benefit both student goal setting accounts, as well as the band in general.  In addition to many short-term fundraisers, ongoing fundraisers such as GFS FunFunds, ink cartridge & cell phone recycling, SCRIP, and TJ Band uniform pillows are available. Please see the fundraiser page for information, order forms, etc.

Drawstring Backpacks

Replacement TJ Band drawstring bags are available for purchase at $7.00 each.  Please contact Noreen Gramm if you would like to purchase another bag.
